Our Story
Michael Gjonaj was born a healthy baby on Sept 28,1992 in Bellfower, California. In 2000 we moved to Michigan. He was a normal athletic boy who loved to play video games and go to the beach. On Feb14,2004 our lives changed. He (age12)was diagnosed with neuroblastoma stage 4 cancer. The survival rate for stage 4 cancer were not good. Michael did the protocol for nb -7 rounds of chemo. When his body did not clear of cancer he continued to do several more rounds of chemo and then a surgery to remove the tumor. His mibg scan still lit up and I switched hospitals to U of M in the hope to do mibg therapy plus a transplant. He switched hospitals and did the workup for a transplant. His cancer then started to progress. He was unable to do the mibg therapy. He broke his left femur in May of 2006 and was stuck in a wheelchair. Despite everything he was smiling and happy and full of life and optimistic that he would beat the cancer. He continued to do more chemos but the cancer kept progressing. I finally went to NY to Sloan in Aug of 2006 for advice. He did one final chemo called Ice which was very hard on his marrow and body. After that he never fully recovered. I took him home on hospice. He lasted one month and died at home with his family beside him. I will love him forever.I cannot bring him back but I hope to help others and help find a cure for this terrible disease. May God bless all the people who helped us through this cancer journey and may he bless the kids who are still in the fight to be cured. Thenkyou
Thank you
Michael Gjonaj was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma stage IV on Feb 14,2004. He fought bravely for almost two years and earned his angel wings on Oct 18,2006(age14). He wanted to become a doctor and find a cure for cancer. He is not able to do that now but with your donation you can help his wish come true and help other kids and find a cure for neuroblastoma. No one knows the cause for childhood cancer so all we can do is to find a cure so that kids don't have to die young.God bless you.
