Makenna King

Makenna King
stage IV Neuroblastoma, remission

Our Story

Makenna was 2 years old when she was diagnosed with stage IV neuroblastoma. She had suffered through ten months of severe diarrhea. This along with a cough were the only side effects of this monster. We made numerous trips to the Emergency Room with her for dehydration before finally being admitted for further testing on her. She went through many Gastric tests. Nothing showed up.Then back home again, just to get dehydrated another time from all the diarrhea. Then back to the hospital. finally on May 19,2000 her doctor ordered a chest xray. That was the day that this horible monster entered our lives. She was so small, and to think that she has cancer at such an helpless age. I was devistated. So, much was going on and she had no idea. On May 21,2000 she underwent a ten hour surgery. The mass in her chest was steming from her spinal column and pressing against her heart and lung. The entire mass was sucessfully removed. She recovered very quickly. Then she started chemotherapy treatments lasting four months. Then on September 11,2001 the day that the world stopped turning in New York. Our world was a happy one. It was the day that we were told that she could stop the chemo and only have to have checkups with lab work and chest xrays. Today, Makenna is 5 years old and has started kindergarten. She is the most outgoing little girl you'll ever see. We are very fortunate to have her with us. God has blessed us.
