Our Story
Erin was diagnosed with neuroblastoma February, 2005, just after her fourth birthday. The day of her fourth birthday party, she started having trouble climbing stairs. We assumed she pulled a muscle in ballet and watched her. Three days later, Erin couldn't walk. She was admitted to Children's Hospital of D.C., and after about a week in-patient, diagnosed with neuroblastoma.
Since diagnosis, Erin has endured 14 rounds of chemotherapy, radiation to her skull and rib, high dose 3F8 monoclonal antibody therapy, and currently standard dose 3F8 antibody therapy. She was declared No Evidence of Disease in April, 2006 after completing the Phase I trial of high dose 3F8 antibody therapy. Erin was the first child ever to receive 8 times the normal dose. We feel very blessed to be at this point, but also realize that relapse could occur.
Without funding for this terrible disease, studies like the high dose 3F8 antibody therapy would not be available. Prior to Erin being diagnosed, I like most of America, had never heard of neuroblastoma. Now I realize how important it is to educate others about this disease. Thank you for all contributions to Lunch for Life. You're helping families like ours!
Thank you
Neuroblastoma is a horrible disease that attacks children. Our family was devastated when we heard Erin had this unknown cancer. Since Erin's diagnosis, I have met many other families who are fighting neuroblastoma. We want others to know about this cancer and help find a cure. Any donation can help! Thanks for your help.
