Stage IV Neuroblastoma

Our Story
Alexa was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma on December 12,2005. Within 9 months it was clear that her disease was the most aggressive form of neuroblastoma there is and a cure was not possible. We brought her home in September 2006 with the understanding that she probably wouldn't make it until Christmas. However, she proved that she had more life to live. In May of 2007 we treated her with another MIBG and followed that in August with a phase II clinical trial drug called ABT-751. She was on that drug with stable disease for 10 months. In June of 2008, she fell ill with a very aggressive, undiagnosed infection in her lungs which led to intense pneumonia, ARDS, and eventually her passing on the 25th. She died in our arms in the ICU unit of Children's Medical Center of Dallas.
Alexa was the bright light that lit our world. She was brave, strong, kind, thoughtful, encouraging, funny and full of love for everyone. She loved her little brother most of all who was just shy of 11 months old when she passed. Although he was just a baby, she left with him a lifetime of love in his heart. We will always remember what a sweet fighter she was and the peace she had around her when she entered the Heavenly Kingdom to be with Jesus and friends and family.
